Funny. I received that message the other day (different class and method). Don't recall how I resolved it, but I think it had to do with referencing the wrong version of a library.
maybe you are compiling in some C# 2.0 mode where there is no extension methods
hahaha you've had more errors from ASP.Net MVC in 3 days than I've had in 3 months.
Sometimes you can get this error if you are referencing different versions of the same DLL in different projects of the same solution.
Well first of all you should be calling RenderPartial() and not calling RenderUserControl()

Yep, I think RenderUserControl was removed starting from the Change Set 14652
