Live vs. Google
I like the live.com UI, but I just run a test on both Google and Live.com, and it's amazing how much better Google is. The query was:
I'm looking for the full quote from Lewis Carole, here are the results from Live, and here are the results from Google. The first result on Google looks like the one that I want. I had to scroll down quite a bit in Live to get to something that looked promising. I'm used to scanning the search results, looking at the phrases that appear, and trying to find the two or three most relevant ones. In the first ten results from Live, I couldn't immeidately see anything that as relevant to what I wanted to find.
Much worse, as far as I am concerned, is their image search, I tried to find:
Live score: 0
Google score : More relevant results than can be see in a page. 1000
I tried a couple of other search phrases, and some of them got me a whole lot of images in Live, but nothing that was as relevant to what i wanted to find. Much worse, while I like the way the live.com image search page looks, it's hardly usable. I can't move my mouse on the screen without having things jump at me. WTF? I felt like I was solving a puzzle, reaching the intended image.
It's just a quick survey, but those are the things that make me like Google so much, even if I don't get the results I wanted right away, I can keep tweaking the search results until I get what I wanted. I had a fairly good idea of what kind of image I wanted in the beginning of the search, and in the end, I found something that is very close to what I wanted.
